The England manager Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Crowd Support Despite Emphatic Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his disappointment that the England team did not enjoy stronger encouragement from the Wembley crowd during their decisive 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his squad continue their strong performance, with strikes from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes effectively ending the contest. However, he was displeased with the mood at the national stadium.
“With one and a half sessions to get ready against a drilled team and we performed excellently,” the coach remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the fourth and fifth goals. There was little noise. We didn’t get support from the stands. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the squad deserved more support today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than leading 3-0 in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a little more backing in periods where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It might have aided us to regain energy, but that’s football and that is it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Performance
Apart from risking a fight with fans, the manager also created controversy by excluding Bellingham and Foden from his team selection. However the choice was justified by Morgan Rogers delivering another standout performance in the No 10 position and scoring his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” the head coach noted. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his place.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, take lessons from their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this friendly,” Bellamy said. “I wanted to assess our standing. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with inspiration.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was taken off at half-time after clattering into a post and may miss out when England play Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
